HOUSTON, TX – JULY 31, 2006
Kristin Bumbera, Pro Late Model Driver, won the main event Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Houston Motorsports Park (HMP). The “Delmar Systems 100 Spectacular” proved to be the longest race so far this season at HMP and attracted the largest field of racecars. Bumbera who started the race from the pole position led the field to the starting line and
never looked back. The race was stopped several times for caution laps due to several incidences happening back in the pack.
This eliminated the gap between Bumbera and the
remainder of the field; a lead that she had stretched out to almost a half a lap at one point in the race. Just when it looked like Bumbera had the win all wrapped up on lap 97, contender, Brent
Seely, from Dallas, TX slid underneath her fighting hard for the lead side-by-side for 2 laps. However, the #00 Maximizer racecar developed a bad push coming out of turn 4 and Seely would be unofficially awarded the win. After post-race technical inspections Seely’s racecar was disqualified and Kristin Bumbera was awarded her second win of the
2006 season.
During the trophy presentation after the race Bumbera was asked about how she lost the lead with just a couple of laps to go after dominating the entire race. She explained, “The brakes were just too hot and I couldn’t get the car to turn.” Bumbera also congratulated her Bumbera’s Performance Associates teammate, Matt Smith, who finished
right behind her in 2nd place.
This otherwise quiet 18 year old showed another surprising move as she took the microphone in hand and showed her gratitude for the large support system behind her. “I want to thank my great sponsor TXI-Maximizer who has come on board with us this season and has helped us out a lot. We couldn’t have done it without them. Thanks also to my crew,
my family, God and to you the fans.” Looks like Bumbera’s confidence is building and we haven’t seen anything yet.
