HOUSTON, TX April 23, 2007 – Saturday nights 75 lap Pro Late Model feature seemed that it would never end for Kristin Bumbera, driver of the #00 Knowing that first place was a long way ahead of her, Bumbera charged from her 15th place starting position to 11th within the first 10 laps of the race. On lap 35 Bumbera and another car collided coming out of turn 4 sending her sliding backwards and sideways all the way down the front stretch. Bumbera quickly got the car pointed in the right direction and back under way before the leaders came around. Although she was at the end of the field she had managed to keep herself on the lead lap with a great save. It only took 5 laps for Bumbera to battle her way from the rear back up to 11th place. However that only lasted 10 laps as she was spun out yet again by another driver. This time it was #16 Chris Comalander as she was passing him in turn 2. Bumbera’s patience was wearing very thin by lap 65 as she was being blocked by 2 lapped cars. Unable to brake hard enough going into turn 1 Bumbera got into the back of #14 Carl Smith doing more damage to her own car. The hood was pushed up so high she couldn’t see where she was going and was forced to make a pit stop to remove the hood. Starting from the rear of the field once again with 10 laps to go this tough Texas girl fought all the way back up to a 8th place finish by the time the checkered flag finally waved. After the race Bumbera commented, “I hope this isn’t going to be a trend we’re starting – we’ve had 2 races and I’ve been taken out twice in each race. Somehow we were able to fight back every time tonight and come home with 8th.” Kenny Bumbera, Kristin’s father and crew chief, thought it was all over when she was hit the first time on the front stretch, “I saw her sliding for the inside wall sideways and backwards and I just knew we were done for the night. But then she saved it. I couldn’t believe she turned the car in the middle of that slide and pointed it down the track and kept going!” Bumbera’s next race will be back at Houston Motorsports Park on Saturday, May 5th. You can bet your boots that she will be bringing everything she’s got to the battle.
